Progress of work: End of Day 10

The work is going on in full swing in the school ground of Tulatoli Primary School, Narsingdi, Bangladesh. Its wonderful to see that the process is already having an impact on children and adults in various ways. The children who visit the site in different times are engaged with different activities using different loose parts (outcome of construction work, construction materials). They are already using the small hills (we are planning to plant grass to make it grassy hills in the adventure play area). They climb up and down the hills, used a small piece of wood to make bridge. They are making fountains using water and sand. They are also helping in the construction work in many ways- bringing bricks to the place of construction, working to give a shape to the grassy hill and helping in local plants search etc. Here are some photos...

We got our Experimental School

Its Tulatuli Primary School After a rigorous (I will surely call it rigorous considering all the aspects we considered) selection process finally we all (me, Simon, Sarah and Eva) are unanimous about one school- Tulatuli Primary School. The reasons or the justifications for the selection of this school is- 1)       Communication is easy from the place of the researcher and also from any point where we can have the construction materials we would like to use. This is important as we are going to work here for a longer period of time. 2)       The school is typical of most of the primary schools in all its aspects- the number of teachers and students, the physical condition and design of the school buildings and also the size of the school ground. 3)       The teachers seem enthusiastic. The Headmaster is a young energetic person and I hope that he can motivate his co-teachers in this project.  The H...

How it looks now!

Our deadline was January 15, 2015 to provide the children with a new school ground and also an outdoor classroom. We were pretty much on time and so far it has taken a good shape. The children have already started using the school ground. We will assess the risks and there will be some additions too later on based on how it is being used now. Here are some pictures of how it looks like now. Outdoor Classroom Growing Area Wet Learning Area Learning through Play Natural Learning Area Shelter Learning with Loose parts Pathway/ Stepping Stones Flat Area/Playground Marking We did not yet work on it. As the soil is compact and children generally use some stick to mark the playground for certain play  (for example 'chi-kut') . We will observe a few days and then decide on the probable location for a finished playground marking. I am in a fix wheth...

Selection of School, Part- 02

25/10/2014 Rahimabad Primary School My Research assistant cum my nephew visited Rahimabad Primary School today as I was away to my capital city. The school ground is quite bigger 70mX42m approximately. It would be great to work in this school but the matter is its quite hectic to go to this school from my place and a bit expensive in respect to some other schools. I need to change CNG driven vehicle. As I am planning to work on longer terms, for almost a year I need some school close to the place I am residing.
